Our Solutions

What are composite veneers?

Composite veneers are made of a tooth-coloured resin material and are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth. Composite veneers can improve the colour, shape and overall appearance of your teeth. This is an incredibly quick procedure that can be completed in just one visit.

Composite veneers are not as strong as porcelain veneers, but they are still very hardwearing, provided you care for them. The composite material will wear down over time and will need to be replaced with further composite bonding or with a permanent porcelain veneer.

What are porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments available today. They are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured porcelain that are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth. Porcelain veneers can improve the colour, shape, size and overall appearance of your teeth.

This is a long-lasting restoration than can completely transform your smile. There is minimal preparation to the underlying tooth structure, so you do not need to worry about damaging your natural teeth. Porcelain veneers are susceptible to chips and cracks, so you will need to take care not to damage the porcelain.

What does porcelain veneers involve?

Veneers need to be bonded to the tooth to make sure they stay firmly in place. Sometimes some of the tooth’s enamel will need to be removed to allow for the thickness of the veneer. They will take a mould of the tooth to ensure a good fit. Then the veneer will be locked in place with dental cement.

Porcelain veneers do not stain in the same way as teeth due to not being porous, however they can with high consumption of tea or coffee or if you are a heavy smoker. Good hygiene remains important to keep veneers clean and keep the underlying tooth healthy.

Frequently asked questions

The two most popular types of dental veneers are made from porcelain or composite. Porcelain offers optimal aesthetic results and better durability, while composite (or chair-side) veneers work well for single-tooth discrepancies.

Traditionally veneers are used in sets of six or more and placed over the upper front teeth. That number may vary depending on the width of your smile. In most cases, veneers are not placed on the lower teeth.

A dental veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that bonds directly over the front of a tooth. Veneers only cover the visible surfaces, as opposed to crowns (which encircle the entire tooth).

The ideal candidate for dental veneers will be someone with healthy teeth and gums but wants to change the overall appearance of their smile. They may feel particularly self-conscious about stains, gaps, tooth shape, or uneven edges.

No. This cosmetic treatment is minimally invasive and paired with numbing medication to ensure optimal comfort at all times. There is no recovery time necessary.

Since each dental veneer is handcrafted from porcelain, there is usually a two-week turnaround between preparation and final placement.

The preparation visit is an essential step in your smile makeover. We will gently anaesthetise (numb) the appropriate teeth and slightly reduce the thickness of your enamel, to prevent bulkiness. Finally, a mould is taken and given to the lab.

In addition to your examination and planning appointment, two visits are necessary. The first is a preparation appointment, and the second is for the final placement of your permanent porcelain veneers.

Treat your dental veneers the same as you would your natural teeth. Gentle toothbrushing and flossing should be completed daily. Avoid harsh or abrasive toothpaste, which may scratch your porcelain restorations. Plan a preventative dental cleaning at least every six months.

Nightguards help to prevent excessive wear or chipping in your porcelain veneers. Chipped porcelain is often the result of nighttime clenching and grinding. Investing in a nightguard can extend the lifetime of your veneers investment.

No. Porcelain veneers do not respond to dental bleaching agents the same way that tooth enamel does. We highly recommend whitening your teeth before beginning cosmetic dentistry treatments.

Properly cared for, dental veneers can last for several years. Daily maintenance and preventative care appointments play an important role in the success of your veneer treatment. On average, most veneers last for about 10 years.
