Are Lingual Braces Right For You?

Posted 26 September 2014 in News

Lingual braces are similar to normal metal braces except they attach to the back of the teeth rather than the front. This renders them invisible and gives patients increased confidence when they are looking to have teeth straightening treatment.

They are suitable for anybody who might have teeth overcrowding in their mouth or for people with gaps between their teeth. They can also be used to improve a malocclusion (an improper bite).

They are not suitable for children with milk teeth or with adults who have particularly small mouths. A consultation with one of our dentists will be able to advise further in this area.

Lingual braces are popular because you can receive all the benefits of non-lingual braces without anybody knowing that you are wearing them. As you wear them you can start to see the improvement in the alignment of your teeth and the structure of your teeth will start to transform as their appearance starts to improve.

So how will you know if lingual braces are right for you?

This will depend on the type of brace design you prefer, how quickly you want your teeth to be aligned and your general oral health. The invisibility of lingual braces can certainly help if you feel self-conscious about wearing braces. Lingual braces will be custom-made to suit your mouth and they will not affect your smile or get in the way.

If you play a contact sport then lingual braces could be a good option for you. They are also a good choice if you happen to play a wind instrument.

Wisdom tooth removal.

I had my lower wisdom tooth removed. To say that I was a nervous patient was an understatement. The dentist was very understanding and explained the process in stages where I could ask questions. Even though I was really panicking inside the staff had a true sense of calm and the tooth removal was quick and uneventful. I originally wanted sedation but felt confident to go without. The aftercare information was very useful. I experienced a first class service here!
